Your core beliefs profoundly influence how you act. Every decision, movement, and reaction you make is intricately tied to what you believe.
These beliefs start forming from the moment you are born. Over time, your daily experiences shape them. For example, encountering something frightening teaches you to avoid similar situations, a survival instinct ingrained since infancy.
While this automatic learning served us well in evolutionary terms, today it often hinders us. Our beliefs trigger imagination, leading to cravings and fears. Craving is rooted in the memory of pleasure, while fear is rooted in the memory of pain.
You are naturally inclined to act to fulfill desires and avoid fears, but clinging to past experiences limits your boundless potential. Interestingly, our behaviors often reinforce the beliefs we hold about ourselves and the world. For instance, if you believe you are unlikeable, your actions may project insecurity, leading others to respond negatively and confirm your belief.
To unlock your full potential, you must break free from these self-imposed limitations. Here are two key steps:
First, practice identifying when you're trapped in fearful thoughts and bring yourself back to the present moment. Fearful thoughts distort reality, creating experiences that feel real but are not true. The more you recognize these thoughts, the easier it becomes to return to reality.
Second, learn to perceive the physical sensations associated with these fearful thoughts. Our beliefs are rooted in bodily sensations of pleasure and pain. Suppressing these feelings only strengthens our limiting beliefs. To overcome them, we must acknowledge and change our relationship with these uncomfortable sensations.
